Our main event is the biennial IPSA World Congress, where we sponsor and co-sponsor panels and roundtables on all aspects of federalism and multilevel governance.

The 26th World Congress was originally scheduled for 25-29 July 2020 in Lisbon, Portugal. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, it has been postponed to 10-14 July 2021, in the same location. RC28 will sponsor a full range of panels and roundtables. An additional call for proposals closed on 20 October. Proposal notifications will be issued by the end of January 2021.

RC28 members are eligible to apply for a travel grant to participate in the IPSA World Congress.

In addition to the World Congress, we sponsor and co-sponsor conferences, workshops, and other events that are relevant to the study of federalism and multilevel governance.

In 2019 we co-sponsored three main events:

A joint conference with fellow IPSA research committees Politics and Ethnicity (RC14), Democratization (RC13), Security, Conflict, and Democratization (RC44), and The Politics of Language (RC50) on Diversity and Democratic Governance: Legacies of the Past, Present Challenges, and Future Directions, held at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, from 12-15 June 2019. The programme is available on the conference website.

A section on Federalism and Multilevel Governance at the 4th International Conference on Public Policy organised by the International Public Policy Association, from 26-28 June 2019.

A panel on Longitudinal Dynamics in Territorial Governance at the 13th ECPR General Conference in Wroclaw, Poland, from 4-7 September 2019.
